Old School Delights

After much searching for a nice cafe at Upper Thomson for dinner, we finally settled on Old School Delights. A retro themed cafe featuring the many fun games and things we do in our primary school days, bringing back nostalgic memories. 

The whole cafe is decorated like a classroom with chalkboards.

I didn't know about that, but it was an interesting nugget to know.



Each table has a notebook-like menu and mini whiteboard and marker for us to place our orders. While waiting for our food to arrive, we entertained ourselves with the old school games like old maid, snake and ladders, five stones, country erasers. All these are available on every table; in our very own OSD wooden box. Also there are the all time favorites, Archie comics and mangas that we enjoy reading in our teens.


Mich ordered the OSD recommended Mee Siam while I tried their Mee Rebus 




The servings of the noodles were quite generous and I almost could not finish it. The Mee Rebus gravy is very flavorful and I really can taste the home cooked feel in it, with all the pounded spices and not artificial enhancers. 


Time for desserts! I had been eyeing on the chendol ever since I saw it on the menu 


The nation sure rewards their soldiers! 1 July is SAF day and thanks to Paul's SAF card, we get to enjoy this chocolate banana fudge cake at half price. 


In conjunction with the SAF day, we also got this complimentary tea with a main dish ordered.

The prices were quite reasonable, on a low side compared to normal cafes. We had a good meal in overall and enjoyed the fun games and nice ambience (: I strongly recommend this place if you want to revive some of your childhood memories. It is also a great place for schoolmates gatherings!

Korea day 5

Time passes so fast when you are enjoying yourself. It is the fifth day in Korea. As usual, we packed up and left the resort in the morning to eat breakfast at the place we had our dinner the day before. I had quite a phobia that they will serve the fake "codfish" soup again as it does not taste nice at all. Luckily, the menu was beef stew soup but we do not eat beef so the soup was substituted with pork tonkatsu which is made with seafood. It does not taste appetising at all and I did not eat much as I am not used to eating rice for breakfast. I also hate having to eat mayonnaise with rice. It just tastes so...wierd...   After breakfast, we left for Everland. It opens at 9.30am but we reached there at about 10plus. We took a shuttle bus into the amusement park and took both group and solo photos at the entrance. Following that, we left to tour the park. Maki-San X Foodpanda

Literally rolled out of bed early for this Maki-San X FoodPanda event held at 112 Katong Maki-San's third outlet. Many thanks to Mich again for jio-ing me to this event since Paul could not make it  I've tried Maki-San once at their first Cathay outlet and I really enjoyed it and looked forward to rolling my own Makis at this event.  These days the trend is all about customization and insta-worthy food. Maki-San simply fulfill our need for novelty by allowing us to customize our very own makis with the toppings we like. Brown rice option is also available for the health conscious.  Really love the pretty and colorful packaging, which won several awards.  Even my friend brought home the boxes after eating > < Being early, we were the first to arrive at the event. Mean Bean & Wicked Grind

After sending cousin off at Goldenmile for her coach to Kuala Lumpur, we decided to go check out Mean Bean & Wicked Grind cafe which is nearby, at The Plaza. From Goldenmile tower, The Plaza is straight up and around 10 minutes walk away. It is also just opposite Haji Lane which is quite accessible for us to go Bugis as we planned to watch a movie after checking out the cafe.  Upon reaching The Plaza, we were a little unsure if we were at the right place as it does not seem like where cafes normally should be. The reviews were accurate, this cafe is quite hard to find > <  All the stores there were mostly furniture stores or travel agencies, hence, we decided to check with the information desk. Much to our surprise, the counter staff knew almost immediately where we wanted to go and gave us directions that it is straight up inside. HOW ULU!  We finally found the cafe!
