Simplicité Café
Being the North kids, how often do we really go all the way to East Coast? Hence, we decided to try out one of the cafes since we are already there.
Mich is a really good tour guide, bringing me around as she has done detailed research on which bus to take, which bus stop that is nearer to alight and even the surrounding buildings. With her, I never have to worry about getting lost. She is surely a good cafe hopping buddy and we make a good duo, her in charge of doing the research and me in charge of taking photos.
After the event, from 112 Katong, we walked to a bus stop to take a bus to our destination. According to Mich's research from Google maps, we just have to alight at Ocean Apartments stop, and any bus can take us there.
However, it ended up we still have to walk a distance before reaching the cafes... BUT... if we did not take the longer way, we would not stumble upon this hidden gem...
Heritage East Condominiums, beautifully painted in pretty pastels that I adore.
Feel like we are out of Singapore, and in some western country...
Pardon me for photobombing Mich in taking pictures of the building
Us trying hard to pose...
This place is so photoworthy, can tell the owner really loves flowers and really did a great job in decorating the place like a relaxing cafe.
The photo taking almost made us forgot about cafe hopping. At the crossroads, we saw two cafes, Penny University and Simplicité Café which were directly opposite each other. We were quite full after the maki session, and we only want to have desserts. We decided to check out Penny University, however, the cafe is full house with long queues. The cakes for the day do not have what we wanted, hence, we did not want to waste time waiting and went opposite to Simplicité Café.
Simplicité Café is really the opposite of Penny University. It is not crowded at all, and to be honest, we were the only customers at that timing when we arrived.
We were in fact glad, as we do not like crowded cafes. I believe cafes should be places for us to rest and relax over good food and coffees. If its crowded, how can we catch up? We would have to raise our voices whenever we talk to fight the noise.
Felt like the whole cafe is ours, and we happily made our way to the counter to check out the menu.
Being Simplicité Café, the menu is simple too. The cafe is known for their Blossom Waffle and we decided to try it along with two scoops of ice cream. After some sampling of the interesting flavors they had, we settled on vanilla which is a classic for waffles and blushing lady, a sorbet made of pink moscato and strawberries. It is a relatively interesting flavor and I can taste the sweet wine in it with a tinge of strawberries.
I am truly impressed by the impeccable service of the staff, kindly explaining to us the ice cream flavors and even asking us if we wanted ice water upon being seated.

The pretty looking blossom shaped waffle, if you look carefully, its made up of four hearts
A really nice dessert to share with your lover
We were a tad disappointed as the portion of strawberries though...making it look a bit sad in the picture...other than that, the waffle tasted crispy and it melts in your mouth along with the ice cream. I always have a soft spot for such desserts and I finished mine in a flash as I did not want the ice cream to melt too much.
Overall, the cafe is quite a nice place for a good catch up session, however, I feel that they can be more generous in the strawberries, like what I saw in DanielFoodDiary.
