Mean Bean & Wicked Grind

After sending cousin off at Goldenmile for her coach to Kuala Lumpur, we decided to go check out Mean Bean & Wicked Grind cafe which is nearby, at The Plaza. From Goldenmile tower, The Plaza is straight up and around 10 minutes walk away. It is also just opposite Haji Lane which is quite accessible for us to go Bugis as we planned to watch a movie after checking out the cafe.

Upon reaching The Plaza, we were a little unsure if we were at the right place as it does not seem like where cafes normally should be. The reviews were accurate, this cafe is quite hard to find > <
All the stores there were mostly furniture stores or travel agencies, hence, we decided to check with the information desk. Much to our surprise, the counter staff knew almost immediately where we wanted to go and gave us directions that it is straight up inside. HOW ULU!

We finally found the cafe! It is quite a small cafe with only two tables inside and a few outside. But the decor and lighting of the interior gives the cafe a homey and cozy feeling. I guess the main target customers are office workers of this building and I'm quite glad that it is not crowded so I can peacefully enjoy my latte and waffles.

A pity that there were not a lot of cake choices that day

A sneak peek of the simple menu

After much deliberation, we ordered two lattes and a Earl Grey Ice Cream Waffle topped with caramel sauce! We checked with the owner if they do latte art, and its so cool that they specialize in bear latte art!

Spot the difference of the bears between mine and pigg's latte. We are not really coffee lovers, but I'm really glad that the caffeine level isn't that strong but I had to add two packets of sugar in order for me to drink it. On a side note, the Lotus biscuit really goes well with the latte and it is suggested to take photos fast as the foam will not that long.

Pigg waiting for me to finish taking photo so he can pig out!

Our Earl Grey Ice Cream Waffle with Caramel Syrup. I enjoyed the waffle a lot as it is warm and crispy, glazed with the sweet caramel sauce and accompanied with the cooling ice cream. It just melts in your mouth and keep you going for more. I think I could finish one whole waffle on my own if I am just that hungry > <

Overall, I would give this cafe a 4 out of 5 stars, even though we had some trouble finding the location. The ambience is really good with the nice mix of background music. The bear latte art is adorably cute that I do not bear to stir it. The waffle is quite tasty too. Most importantly, I feel that the price is really reasonable! One cup of latte cost only $4.50 and the waffle is only $9.90! Where would you find such nice latte art as such a cheap price! And it is also nett price! Our bill added up to only $18.90!

I would really recommend this cafe and may visit it again whenever I go to Nicoll highway, perhaps before I hop on the bus when I go to Malaysia or when I'm around Bugis/ Haji Lane and feel like having some cakes and latte (:
