Maki-San X Foodpanda

Literally rolled out of bed early for this Maki-San X FoodPanda event held at 112 Katong Maki-San's third outlet. Many thanks to Mich again for jio-ing me to this event since Paul could not make it

I've tried Maki-San once at their first Cathay outlet and I really enjoyed it and looked forward to rolling my own Makis at this event.

These days the trend is all about customization and insta-worthy food. Maki-San simply fulfill our need for novelty by allowing us to customize our very own makis with the toppings we like. Brown rice option is also available for the health conscious.

Really love the pretty and colorful packaging, which won several awards.
Even my friend brought home the boxes after eating > <

Being early, we were the first to arrive at the event. We were given each a nice foodpanda apron to wear so that we will not dirty our clothes.

Mich is like a panda after suffering from insomnia last night > <

My dark eye rings coming out soon and becoming like a panda too

Sleepy but so excited to roll our own panda sushi

At 11am, the event kicked off with a short introduction from Foodpanda and the owner of Maki-San before Chef Ong takes over the stage with a demo session on how to make the perfect panda maki

First, place the nori (seaweed) flat with the shiny side facing outwards when wrapping

Then put some white rice in the middle, this will make the first outer layer of the panda

Put a piece of a flat soy sauce marinated salmon on top, this will be the mouth of the panda

Cover it with more rice to leave some gaps before putting the nose

and covering with more rice again

put the two eyes of the panda before finishing it off the white rice

Here you are, does it resemble the panda?

There you go, after wrapping the panda ears with brown rice, Chef Ong's version of Panda Maki

After the demo, we went back to our tables for hands on time! We were each given a set of ingredients and we can get rollin'

Focused mode on

See how Mich is serious and busy to even look at the camera.

Finally done with our panda makis!

My version of a panda maki: cheeky panda

Together with our hard work

After a short break with some drinks, we get to experience standing inside the counter and customizing our own maki-san!
The owner joked that we might also get hired for part-time if we do well > <

Inside the counter, so spoilt for the variety of choices for toppings and sauces!

Can I work here now? Hahas

I also get to choose the packaging! With different patterns on all four sides!

My very own mega maki-san:

Chose brown rice for a healthier option and
5 essentials- roasted mushrooms, tempura enoki mushrooms, ebiko, pickled cucumber, tamagoyaki
2 specials: smoked salmon and tempura soft shell crab
1 sprinkle: Bonito (fish flakes) and topped with Japanese Mayo

Surprisingly, the brown rice taste similar to white rice as its not as hard as I expected it would be. Together with the flavorful ingredients, Oishii!

Had a really enjoyable experience DIY-ing my own maki and even making a panda maki which is really fun and simple! Many thanks to Foodpanda and Maki-San for inviting us and giving us this opportunity to eat and have fun at the same time! I will surely try out Foodpanda in the future and I even plan to have lunch at Maki-San's The Arcade branch next week (:
