The Lab
After walking for some distance from Bugis MRT, we know we have found THE LAB after seeing this famous graffiti. I have always wanted to try this halal cafe ever since April on two occasions but did not manage to as it was either closed or full house. I guess it gets crowded at dinnertime, hence, it is recommended to go on a weekday afternoon. On a side note, reservation is only available for 6 pax onwards.
The counter decorated like a lab, experimenting in progress
A self service station for water and sauces.
Drinks dispenser in huge jars hanging above the counter. I wonder what is in that LOL! concoction.
Lots of test tubes and bottles,
But I guess the experiment is a success, judging by the look of the pretty cakes display.
What a creative way to display and store the menus, using a clothes hanger
Caramel Macchiato, with the espresso in the syringe.
I guess we inserted too big a dosage of the espresso and it turned out to be quite bitter. It tasted better after the ice has melted but I felt that it would taste better if there is more caramel so that the sweetness can tone down the bitterness
A fun way to drink is by the syringe
Soup of the day- Clam Chowder
A rather soupy version but with lots of clams. It still retains a creamy texture and goes down your throat smoothly.
The buttered bread is really soft and it compliments the soup really well. I wished I had more of the bread to go with the big bowl of chowder.
On a side note, as the portion of soup is rather big, it is not recommended to finish up the soup unless you are with company as it might leave little space for your main dish.
Le Carte Le Fish-
Barramundi fish wrapped with Turkey bacon strips and topped with prawns
A dish that do not only please my eyes but my tastebuds too.
The soft fish paired with the turkey bacon is not only a special combination tasted surprisingly good too, feels like a really classy dish but at a affordable price.
Heisenberger-
A simple and delightful burger. Sandwiched between two soft buns, you will find a piece of crispy turkey bacon, a specially made beef patty with diced vegetables mixed into the patty, soft lettuces and baby tomatoes that would leave you salivating at the sight of this experiment !
The meat, though a tad dry and unseasoned, is perfect once you sprinkle some salt and pepper which heightens the taste of the patty.
The fries tasted really good, especially the sweet potato fries which are not commonly served.
Overall, I really enjoyed the ambience of the cafe, even though pigg complained that our table is too near to the aircon, which resulted him and the food in being cold too easily.
I would really recommend The Lab to any of my friends !
