Food For Thought @ Botanic Gardens

What's better than to celebrate National Day with a nice brunch all the way at Food For Thought,  Botanic Gardens. Kudos to SG50! Free rides for the whole day on 9 August, we do not even need to tap in or out and feel the pinch whenever we hear the 'beep'sounds. Every national day, I would want to laze around at home since everywhere would be crowded. But this year, I would really want to make full use of the Jubilee Weekend to travel as much as possible!

We took the train to Botanic Gardens and realised that we should have taken to Orchard instead as we had to walk all the way to the other side before we reached Food For Thought. Though it was quite a distance, we get to see many people in red and white to celebrate our nation's birthday.

We finally reached Food For Thought, located at the the basement of Botany Centre, quite a big restaurant that can seat up to 250 people unlike the small scale cafes that we had visited. It is quite a peaceful place to eat brunch at after a morning stroll through the park as it is surrounded by lush greenery. However, we sat indoors as it is really warm and hot outside that day.

We decided to go for their brunch menu since we did not really have breakfast even though it was already lunch time. But yeah, its all an all day breakfast menu, so why not?

Pigg and his House Works.

House works is actually an upsize of basic works (scrambled eggs, bacon and butter brioche) with hashbrowns and cherry tomato salad.

The hashbrowns are really da bomb!

We topped $4 for a Soup of the day- pumpkin soup.

Certainly a miss as it is really diluted...and tastes really weird

We also topped $3 for a glass of ice lemon tea, which tastes really sour initially, but after the ice has melted, it tasted pretty good. Freshly made I guess, unlike the normal overly sweet iced lemon teas in normal restaurants.

I also ordered their Dark Chocolate & Mixed Berries Pancakes, one of the chef''s recommendation.

The dollop of whipped cream certainly do not look appealing to me, but it really makes a difference in this dish if without for it. It is quite an unusual combination of bitterness and sourness of the dark chocolate and berries but the whipped cream managed to even out the taste. I could say that the berries are really fresh but sour. The pancakes are soft and fluffy and hot off the pan, hence the chocolate chips are easily melted.

After our hearty brunch, we decided to head over to the buzzling carnival that we passed by when we were on our way to FFT. There were many food and beverage booths, and even a caricature and henna booth which caught my eye . Hence, we queued up for it although its expected that it would be be a while before our turn.

Pigg really cannot take proper pictures at times.

A more proper one after I told him off

A selfie after he went off to queue for the caricature while I queued for the henna.
Thankfully for a kind lady, I got to go over for caricature and return later for my henna.

In the caricaturist eyes, we became Hercules and Medusa
(which I'm a lil disappointed, I could really do without the hair full of snakes)

Henna! But I would prefer flowering plants than this, well, it is free so I can't ask for more.

After that, we decided to head over to Stadium, there is also a carnival there, however by the time we reached, it was already 5 plus and most of the booths are either having long queues or closing. Hence, we decided to go inside Kallang Wave Mall to get Pigg's supplies for PTP before ending our day with Bak Kut Teh for dinner and a glimpse of the fireworks outside the mall.

It was certainly a long and tiring day but I'm really glad to have spent National Day with pigg before he enlist. Hence, every minute of time together and memory made is worth treasuring.
