Switzerland Honeymoon: Zermatt Part 2

Breakfast in the hotel before we got on our busy day! Breakfast was included as part of our room rate and it was surprisingly good! The actually baked the croissants and bread fresh in-house and it tasted amazing!

It was a long walk to the gondola station and we decided to hop on a taxi midway, it was CHF6 per person but worth the ride. We can spot the Matterhorn as soon as we alighted the taxi

We bought the Glacier Paradise tickets from the counter which costs CHF47.50 per person (50% discount for Swiss Travel Pass holders).

Tip: During the period that we went, the PeaktoPeak ticket which includes both Glacier Paradise and Gornergrat was not available, but it provides more cost savings and it’s more convenient

Taking the gondola to Trockener Steg where we will have to change to another bigger gondola which takes us to Glacier Paradise

Shot taken by a local skier who hopped on the same gondola as us

It was a quite a long ride and we finally reached Glacier Paradise after two gondola rides. There were not a lot of tourists but more of locals who came to ski.

First stop: The viewing platform

We got a 360 degree panoramic view but too bad there were some obstruction from the cranes. It was so chilly and windy and my toes went numb from the cold

Next stop: Glacier Palace

We noticed that there were not as many tourists as compared to locals who came up to Glacier Paradise to ski. We kind of have the whole ice palace to ourselves.

Pigg and the Matterhorn ice sculpture

After an overpriced and not so satisfying lunch at the only restaurant, we headed back down via the gondolas.

Matterhorn Matterhorn everywhere!

Another long ride down, but thankfully for the great views, the ride was enjoyable

Prior to the winter season, you can actually transfer and which takes you directly to the Gornergrat. Since it was currently not available, we had to head back down to the main station and to save time and our legs, we took a taxi back to the Gornergrat main station.

Tip: for those who are making payment in cash, you will have to make the exact payment as no change was given.

View on board the Gornergrat cog railway, Matterhorn from another angle

On our way 3100 metres above sea level

After a 35-minutes ride, we were at the top!

Although it was cold, it was more bearable at the Gornergrat as compared to Glacier Paradise

So thankful for the blue skies and great weather for the time that we are in Zermatt, we got to see a clear view of the Matterhorn without any fog

One last picture before we caught the train down

Tip: do plan your time well at the Gornergrat and make sure to take note of the scheduled timings of the next train. It is best to board earlier than scheduled departure time in order to get seats

Tip: Sundays are a rest day for Switzerland especially in non-touristy areas, most shops are either closed or closes early. November is an off-peak season, our hotel also closed for break for a week on our check-out day before reopening for the Winter peak season.

Conclusion: For those who have no time, would recommend you to skip the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and head straight to the Gornergrat instead.
