Switzerland Honeymoon: Lucerne

The train ride from Interlaken to Lucerne felt one of the longest out of our whole journey but the views of the turquoise blue waters of Lake Brienz were definitely rewarding.

Fun fact: One of the iconic scene from ‘Crash Landing on You’ was filmed at Lake Brienz. During warmer months, they actually have a boat cruise on the lake.

After a close to 2 hour ride, we finally reached Lucerne and checked in to our cozy room at Hotel Ameron Flora Luzern

It was a bit rainy in Lucerne and we had dinner at Wirthaus Taube, where we had previously made a reservation

Barley soup

Pork cheek with couscous

Veal Cordon Bleu, one of the specialties of Lucerne

Cheers! Dining in restaurants was not cheap in Switzerland but wine is really affordable as compared to Singapore

The food was not to our liking, but I loved their mayonnaise and even bought one home from the supermarket

After dinner we took a walk and stroll across the Chapel Bridge to get our next day breakfast

Rise and shine for a brand new day, we were excited to explore Lucerne!

Passing by Lucerne Station on our way to the pier, one of the busiest station and I was shocked by the rush hour crowd when we arrived

On a leisure boat ride cruise to Vitznau. I was actually expecting a ferry like those that we take to Bintan/Batam but the boat that we took is more like a luxurious cruise which have a dining area and cafe

Went to the deck although it was drizzling to get some photos.

Nice photo taken by a Thai tourist

Waving to the captain who saw us out at the deck

Arrived at Vitznau after three stops and close to an hour

The majestic Park Hotel Vitznau which looks like a manor

We hopped on the Rigibahn, a cogwheel train which takes us up to Mount Rigi.

As it was rainy, the peak was foggy when we arrived. Since there was nothing to see, we decided to quickly board the next train and return to Lucerne

We were a bit disappointed that we could not properly explore Mount Rigi due to the thick fog but we were grateful to have good weather for the past few days

We took a bus to Rigi Bahnof and boarded a train back to Lucerne

Got a Cailler chocolate croissant snack while we waited for our train

Passed by the iconic Chapel Bridge on the way to lunch

Have to take a picture to check-in at Chapel Bridge!

Lunch at Pfistern Zunfthausrestaurant, we ordered their set lunch which comes with a soup and salad, a more affordable option.

I ordered a mixed vegetables in puffed pastry dish (forgot what the actual name was) since I do not eat beef. It was delicious!

Pigg ordered the fish but they gave him the chicken, although the order was wrong they did not seem to offer to want to change the dish for him. On a side note, this was the first time we had rice throughout the entire trip

We have been ordering and drinking punches for the past few days, and turns out it’s actually in powdered form. We took a picture as we hope to find and buy some from the supermarket to bring back home

We went to do some shopping at Victorinox for a Swiss Army Knife for my Dad and received a discount coupon on our next purchase. As I wanted to save money, I decided to buy the rest of the items in Zurich but failed to as they were closed early. We also could not get it from the airport as it would not pass security.

We then took a bus to visit the Lion Monument

Visited the Glacier Garden (located right next to the monument), free admission with the Swiss Travel Pass.

Had fun taking pictures that made us look fat, long, short and distorted

View from the lookout point after climbing a few flights of stairs

We went quite late and it was as though we had the entire park to ourselves, got a little scary when we were exploring the underground glaciers as we were the only ones there. Since, it was free, it’s a good place to visit in the event of bad weather

After more shopping for souvenirs at Coop city, we had our last dinner in Lucerne at Rathaus Brauerei, a German restaurant which had a in-house brewery

Ordered the pork chop while Pigg had the bone marrow stew which he complained that it got a bit too Jelat after a while

Cheers to our last night in Lucerne!

We dined the most in restaurants in Lucerne and most of the food was more German as influenced by the nearby Germany. If we had more time and if the weather was good, I would slot in a trip to Mt Pilatus.
