Switzerland Honeymoon: Genève
After collecting our luggage from Bern station, we were off to our next stop: Genève
In less than 2 hours, we arrived at Genève station and quickly checked in to our hotel, dropped off our luggage so we can explore the city
We took a mouette boat across Lake Geneva, it was free with the Geneva transport card which comes with our hotel booking.
We were lucky to see the Jet d’Eau slowly light up through the night. The water in the lake is really clear!
Genève was initially not in our itinerary but we slotted it in for the Christmas market - Noël au Jardin
Christmas in Switzerland really hits different, the mulled wine tasted delicious in the cold, there were bonfires for us to warm up our hands, and the night just seems magical with the Christmas lights twinkling
We had to take a ride on the Ferris wheel for a panoramic view of the city from above
Genève, the watching making city, we can spot many Swiss watch brands like Rolex, Tissot, Tudor, Richard Mille etc from above
View of the Christmas lights of the festive market. Christmas in Europe definitely have more feels than any Asia country.
Had always wanted to listen to the music of Alpine horns! And we spotted a band playing Christmas tunes with Swiss Alphorns
It was only 6pm but the dark night sky felt like it was 8 or 9pm, illuminating the rainbow colours of the fountain jet
The Christmas market is set in the Jardin Anglais (English Garden), and in the heart of the garden lies the monumental fountain which is now decorated with hanging lights
One of the interesting dishes that we had, chicken wings and pork skewers which are barbequed form the side in a bonfire, served on top of a toasted bread with some spice powder
Good Morning from Genève! The sun had started to rise as we took a mouette boat across taking the same route as we did the day before
Since breakfast was not included in our hotel package, we decided to try McDonald's in Switzerland! The outlet that we went to did not have any breakfast sets so I went to try the McCafe specials: Daim donut and Daim Cappucino! A sweet delight to start my morning!
We decided to explore the old town as it was still early, we literally camped outside and waited for St Pierre's Cathedral to open at 10am, and we were among the first ones to enter.
Both the interior and exterior architecture of the cathedral is simply captivating, a peaceful and quiet place for one to just reflect
If we had more time, I had wanted to climb to the top of the tower where we can get a panoramic view of the city and the lake.
Look at the intricate stained glass paintings on the windows of the side chapel
Quiet streets of Geneva as it was relatively early
Passed by the Old Arsenal where the five famous cannons are still exhibited under the archways as a reminder when Geneva had to defend itself from its neighbours.
