Switzerland Honeymoon: Zermatt part 1

Breakfast with a view in our hotel room private balcony before we check-out. We had opted for continental breakfast to be sent our room the day before and it was a spread of pastries!

It was a relatively relaxing day for us as our itinerary is quite free and easy, and we did not have to rush

After changing two trains and two hours, we arrived at Zermatt. First order of business is to check in to our hotel, Hotel Butterfly Zermatt! We got a room at the highest level (it had a better view but we had to climb a flight of stairs as the lift stops at the 5th level and our room is at the 6th level)

Our cosy chalet cabin style room. We are surprised that this hotel is categorised as a 3-star hotel as it felt like a 4-star and even comes with a Smart TV where we were able to watch Netflix!

We cannot see the Matterhorn from our room but we had a great view of the village

It was late afternoon and there was not many restaurants still open, we decided to settle our lunch at a Pizzeria near the train station and we were glad that we chose it.

We ordered prosciutto ham pizza and vongole to share and boy it was so simple and good. Love the fresh clams and mussels as well as the savoury pizza.

Läderach chocolate for dessert! We had never tried it in Singapore as we felt that it was expensive and we definitely had to try it in Switzerland.

Highly recommend the macadamia chocolate, we could taste the roasted nuts which goes really well with the fresh chocolate.

We explored the shopping street which is lined with many winter/ski sports clothing shops, pharmacies, chocolatiers, souvenir stores and etc.

We planned to visit the Matterhorn Museum but it only opens at 3pm and since we were still early, we decided to explore the village and come back after.

Interestingly, the museum only opens for 3 hours daily from 3-6pm. The Matterhorn museum is an underground museum that showcases the development of Zermatt, as well as the tragedy of surrounding the first ascent of the Matterhorn. As we have the Swiss Travel Pass, we got free admission to the museum.

Christmas is coming to Zermatt!

Our first sighting of the Matterhorn! We were lucky for the clear skies and we could see the distinct triangular peak

We went to KirchbrĂĽcke with hopes of catching the of the sunset but was rewarded with a clearer view of the Matterhorn

It was cold but the perfect view of the Matterhorn filled me with warmth inside

Pigg’s way of saying ‘I heart Matterhorn’

And of course we had to do the mandatory picture of matching the Toblerone chocolate to the Matterhorn

Think we took dozens of photos with the Matterhorn and this is one of my favorite

We had dinner at Restaurant Schäferstube, known for their lamb which came from their black nose sheep. I was at first skeptical as I was never a fan of lamb and the appearance of the dish does not look appetizing, but once I had a taste, I never looked back, it was super good!

The restaurant specially prepared a birthday cake surprise for me although they do not sell any desserts. Both the service and food is on point, totally recommend a visit to try their lamb to anyone visiting Zermatt!
