Switzerland Honeymoon: Bern

After 2 flights and a stopover at Abu Dhabi, we were finally in Switzerland for our long awaited honeymoon!

After we touched down at Zurich International Airport, we  were on our way to Bern via the Express train, to start our first leg of our Switzerland travels. The trains are punctual and clean, although people are allowed to eat onboard.

After a 1 hour and 20 minutes ride, we arrived at Bern. We stored our luggage at the lockers, and we were on our way to explore the UNESCO world heritage old town!

We hopped on the tram to visit our first stop - Zytglogge Clock Tower

Of course we have to take a picture with the 15th century astronomical clock, we stayed for a while to listen to the chime as the clock strikes at the next hour

We then headed to Rosengarten where we were greeted with sweeping city view of Bern from above! Although it was drizzling, the view is still picturesque!

Fun fact: Rosengarten used to be a cemetery before it was redesigned as a public park and a home to different types of roses and flowers which blooms in the Summer. Although it was late Autumn, we can still spot specks of yellow and orange.

We went for our lunch reservation at Restaurant Rosengarten where we had our first taste of Fondue. Although it was only bread and potatoes, it was a filling meal. Dining in restaurants is definitely not cheap in Switzerland but we were happy to be able to try fondue in the country known for their cheese

Cheers to the start of our honeymoon with Pinot Gris, specially recommended by our Italian waiter. Wines are so much cheaper here than in Singapore!

Literally chillin’ out with Einstein as we made our way down after lunch

Amazing views of the River Aare from the Nydeggbrüke Bridge

We visited the Einstein House
Fun fact: he developed the Theory of Relativity in this apartment where he stayed for two years

Do remember to let the staff know that you have Swiss Travel Pass to receive a discount, we paid the full price of CHF6 instead of CHF4.50 as we did not tell them...

Bern is also known as the “City of Fountains” with over 100 fountains where the public can get water for free. We spotted a few fountains with historical figures along our way.

Last glimpse of the Zytglogge Clock Tower before we head to our next stop: Genève
