Village Hotel Katong Staycation
Finally its recess break! Time to take a much needed breather before all the work comes in when school starts! Made a last minute decision for a 2D1N staycation at Village Hotel Katong with pigg, because why not right? We both need a break from our hectic schedules.
It was truly a getaway from the busy city, located in the hoods of Katong, Village Hotel Katong is the flagship hotel of all Village Hotels. We are able to immerse ourselves with the Peranakan culture and heritage of Joo Chiat.
Perks of staying in the club rooms is that we got to check in early at 12pm! Guests can also do self-check in easily at the self-check in kiosk.
Modern hotel lobby with Peranakan touches
The check-in process at Village Hotel Katong is fast compared to our previous staycation.
Soon enough, we were on our way up to level 5 where all the Peranakan Club rooms are.
Loving the blue and white hues of our room! The room is exactly how it looks like online, no disappointment this time round unlike our previous staycation.
The Peranakan inspired designs are seamlessly incorporated into the rooms, giving it a modern and cozy feel. It totally felt like home even though I'm only staying here for a night.
Highlight of the room is the bathtub!
Picture on the comfy king sized bed.
Coincidental much, our outfits were quite matchy with the room decor.
Pigg instantly felt at home and could not resist lying on the bed
After settling down our stuffs, we decided to check out the other facilities within the hotel.
Swimming Pool
Located on level four and atop of Katong V mall, the swimming pool is a great place for suntanning and perhaps a short dip in the round pool.
Saffron Ballroom
Popular for weddings, corporate parties and events; accommodating up to 180 guests.
Meeting Rooms
There are a total of 4 meeting rooms, named after spices: Anise, Galangal, Halia & Serai.
Peranakan Club Lounge
Another perk for staying in the club room is that we enjoy access to the club lounge!
The club lounge is open 24 hours with the access of room key card in case we need some drinks and snacks from the minibar.
At 6-8pm, we can also enjoy light bites and cocktails.
Pigg helping himself to the drinks. Coffee/tea for you sir?
After much exploration of the facilities in the hotel, we decided to grab lunch at Parkway Parade, which is just a 5-minute walk away.
Pigg said that we should take a picture with the hotel to show that we stayed here. The hotel is also connected to Katong V mall where guests can enjoy great accessibility to several F&B options and also the supermarket.
How interesting that the Village Hotel Katong is built like a pyramid shape. Unlike normal hotels where the suite rooms are located on the upper levels, Village Hotel Katong bigger rooms are located at the lower levels.
Time to turn on the Pokemon Go App and go pokehunting! Caught quite a lot of pokemon from Johto region as the whole stretch of Katong is filled with pokestops.
Haven't been to Parkway Parade for the longest time ever!
Decided to dine at Jack's Place and have their daily set lunch. Pigg went for the N.Z. Sirloin Steak with Tomato Sauce topped with Mushroom Florentine while I ordered the Caesar Salad with Grilled Salmon & Lava Egg
Thereafter, we walked around a bit before continuing our Pokehunt along Marine Parade Road and Joo Chiat Road to I12 Katong Mall.
So many F&B options along Katong! No need to worry about having nothing to eat!
After taking a short rest at the hotel, we headed up to the Peranakan Club Lounge at 7pm to enjoy our welcome cocktail and also some light bites.
A variety of western and peranakan selection of snacks: sandwiches & nyonya kueh
The cempedak profiteroles is so good!
Hot food selection of assorted satay, meatball braised with demi-glaze, chicken karaage with coriander and sweet chilli, deep fried vegetarian tofu skin
Beverage selection: alcohol that is only available during 6-8pm
The club lounge staff took great care of us, serving us drinks and making sure we are well tended to.
Pigg went for the white wine while I got the Vodka & Orange Juice cocktail.
Overall, the food was good and we were a bit full by the time we finished.
But that did not stop us to heading out for a second round of dinner! Just across the road, there are so many cafes and restaurants along the rows of shophouses! A variety of different cuisines to choose from and we were spoilt for choice!
As we were not that hungry, we decided to share at bowl of Laksa at 328 Katong Laksa. Since, we should try Katong Laksa when coming to Katong. Apparently, their laksa is quite famous, with celebrity photos as proof plastered all around the walls of the store.
Not really sure for me and pigg, but we certainly could not handle the spiciness of the Katong Laksa.
And we headed to Birds of Paradise for a gelato to extinguish the fire in our mouths.
Birds of Paradise has a concept of botanical inspired gelato; with interesting flavors such as spiced pear and white chrysanthemum. They are also known for their thyme cones which was unfortunately sold out by the time we reached.
All the flavors were so unique and special!
But at last, we decided on 2 scoops: Pandan and Lychee Raspberry
With the good food at the club lounge and sweet desserts from Birds of Paradise, marks the closure to our day.
Day 2! Rise and shine for breakfast at Katong Kitchen!
Woke up real early for breakfast at 6.30am as Pigg had to go to camp.
Live egg station, where we could request on how we want our eggs to be done.
For me, I'm more of a sunny-side up person while pigg is more of a omelette guy.
Care for some bread with butter?
Noodles live station
After sending pigg off, I went back to the room for an additional hour of rest before waking up for breakfast round 2 at the Club Lounge!
Yet another variety of continental breakfast options but I had the porridge as I was still a little full from the earlier round.
As we only need to check out by 4pm, we need not rush and are able to have lunch before going back. Therefore, I waited for Pigg to return from camp and we had lunch at Batter Fluffy Flaps Bistro!
Reading the newspapers, nah, its actually a menu
Ordered Truffle fries for the side! So good!
Somebody just wants to dig in.
Codfish Garlic Fried Rice
Soft Shell Crab Garlic Fried Rice
Gotta have some fruits at An Acai Affair to detox after all the fried food!
First time trying Acai pudding and it goes really well with the assortment of fruits drizzled with honey. Sorry froyo, acai pudding is the IN thing now.
Did not know that Acai has so much health benefits!
And that wraps up our staycation at Village Hotel Katong where we pigged out during the short two days one night.
Time to check out! Till next time!~
