Shop Wonderland

Image
Even though I went at night, I still could not miss Shop Wonderland that is located in the midst of the line of shophouses selling quirky and vintage items in Haji Lane. Shop Wonderland, even at night still looked as beautiful and bright in the inside, decorated with lots of dried flowers and vintage furniture gives off a European vibe. It is really a Shop Wonderland, besides being a cafe and floral shop, they also offer workshop classes.  As we reached around 7pm, we only had one hour to enjoy the desserts before the shop closes at 8pm. I always have a soft spot for salted caramel cake and we simply have to order it.  The salted caramel is really light and delightful,  I enjoyed the rim of the cake most where the essence of caramel is.   The molten lava cake topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  Compared to the salted caramel, it is richer in taste, hence I would say that they are a perfect match.  Who can re...

Nunsaram Korean Dessert Cafe

Image
This is my third time eating Bingsu, but first time trying Nunsaram Korean Dessert Cafe @ Westgate. Compared to  Banana Tree  and  BiBing  who have really pretty and attractive looking Bingsu, I guess Nunsaram bingsu looks more like a normal korean bingsu. Mango Bingsu- $15.90  The shaved ice is really soft and melts straight inside your mouth like snow. However, the shaved ice do not have much flavour except for a light milky taste. On a side note, the mangoes are very fresh and sweet. I really felt like a snowman as I am shivering from the cold while eating. The bingsu might not be as fantastic as I imagined it to be, but the company is good though (:

D'Good Cafe

Image
What's even better than to catch up with a 7 year long friend over good food, good coffee and good ambience? For that, we went all the way to D'Good Cafe at Holland Village. I have always wanted to try the food there and I finally had the time to do so and the right company to go with (:  We sat at the swing seats where we can get a view of the outside. It is really lucky that we got those seats. Actually, we came a little earlier than the people who came behind us, if not we would not have gotten the swing seats which are attractive for girls and couples.  Just chillin' and rockin' on the swing while waiting for our food to arrive  Damn good lighting too, of course, must selfie  We waited quite a while before the food arrive, I wanted to order the all day English Breakfast but they ran out of baked beans, so they do not serve it. Also, the eggs benedict were out of stock so I ordered the Linguine Alle Vongole (Clam Pasta) instead. ...

Maccha House

Image
Totally had a Matcha feast with Waiching and ducky sis yesterday at Maccha House, Orchard Central. As their name suggests, Maccha House serves a variety of matcha based desserts which matcha lovers would go crazy for. We also had a hard time deciding what to have from that array selection of matcha sweets, parfaits and dorayakis.  Ducky sis order (which I forgot what is it called and felt quite scammed by it) A matcha soft serve ice cream eaten together with a waffle-like biscuit, not really worth $7.90 looking at the portion.  Waiching's Maccha Tiramisu  Not chilled and matcha powder tastes bitter and overpowers the taste of tiramisu. Thankfully for the tea to cleanse my palate. Waiching also ordered this Traditional Maccha Its fun to mix the powder yourself but the tea still taste too strong and Waiching felt like its not really nice. However, thumbs up for the mochi balls.    My Maccha Chocolate Parfait I enjoyed the t...

Food For Thought @ Botanic Gardens

Image
What's better than to celebrate National Day with a nice brunch all the way at Food For Thought,  Botanic Gardens. Kudos to SG50! Free rides for the whole day on 9 August, we do not even need to tap in or out and feel the pinch whenever we hear the 'beep'sounds. Every national day, I would want to laze around at home since everywhere would be crowded. But this year, I would really want to make full use of the Jubilee Weekend to travel as much as possible! We took the train to Botanic Gardens and realised that we should have taken to Orchard instead as we had to walk all the way to the other side before we reached Food For Thought. Though it was quite a distance, we get to see many people in red and white to celebrate our nation's birthday. We finally reached Food For Thought, located at the the basement of Botany Centre, quite a big restaurant that can seat up to 250 people unlike the small scale cafes that we had visited. It is quite a peaceful place to eat brun...

Stateland Cafe

Image
Cafe hopping with Waiching again! Thanks Waiching for the treat and for being a sport in pei-ing me to go to any cafe I wanted to go!  Went to Stateland Cafe this time round to check out their unique TAN honey toast! Fancy us eating charcoal, I am really curious of its taste.  I had my dinner beforehand but as Waiching had not had her dinner, she ordered a pasta Waiching's Truffled Mushroom Alfredo- Strong smell of truffle oil, and not a very good response from Waiching after eating.   I guess its more recommended to try the desserts here (: Selfies while waiting for our dessert! Be sure to 'Tan' for this (TAN)ç‚ honey toast. We waited around 15-20 minutes before our order came, but it was really worth it as the bread is baked freshly daily.  The 'orh orh' colour of the toast may look dull and unappealing unlike most shibuya toasts which are colorful and attractive. But do be surprised as the toast is baked crispy on the o...

Ichiban Boshi @ Causeway Point

Image
This is the first time I am doing a bad review on a restaurant, and I am surprised that I coming up with a review when I am angry took way faster than writing a good review. I believe service excellence is more important than the taste of the food. Even if the food is good, but the service fails, it would certainly affect my mood and appetite.  I have been to Ichiban several times, but was really disappointed at their service level this time round. This is how Ichiban Boshi @ Causeway Point fail so badly in terms of their service: 1. The food took more than the promised 20minutes and close to 1 hour to serve. Overpromising instead of underpromising which fails really terribly in terms of service management.  2. Staff do not even know what is happening in the kitchen that resulted in the slow preparation of food, or perhaps they were pretending not to know and did not give a proper explanation to customers. When asked a couple of times when our food will be com...

The Lab

Image
After walking for some distance from Bugis MRT, we know we have found THE LAB after seeing this famous graffiti. I have always wanted to try this halal cafe ever since April on two occasions but did not manage to as it was either closed or full house. I guess it gets crowded at dinnertime, hence, it is recommended to go on a weekday afternoon. On a side note, reservation is only available for 6 pax onwards.  The counter decorated like a lab, experimenting in progress A self service station for water and sauces.  Drinks dispenser in huge jars hanging above the counter. I wonder what is in that LOL! concoction. Lots of test tubes and bottles,   But I guess the experiment is a success, judging by the look of the pretty cakes display. What a creative way to display and store the menus, using a clothes hanger Caramel Macchiato, with the espresso in the syringe. I guess we inserted too big a dosage of the espresso...
