Taipei Day 5 | Pigg's 22nd in Taipei

Unknowingly, it's the second last day of our trip! Finally tried Yong He Dou Jiang, the breakfast place which always has long queues in the morning. The store has limited seats and we had to share tables with others. This is one of the most filling breakfasts we had and had trouble finishing. The only thing I liked from Yong He was the soy milk. The noodles were not bad (like tomato sauce spaghetti) but for the youtiao and carrot cake, I still preferred SG version.

Today's schedule is quite relaxing as it's pigg's birthday. The plan was to go Wulai for onsen and dinner at Wang Steak. Everything was pre-booked, therefore we need not queue or rush.

Once again, today we went to the ends of Taipei, took the metro to Xindian station.

We arrived earlier than our scheduled shuttle bus which will take us to Wulai. The weather was particularly cold today compared to the other days, and I was only a romper and thin cardigan. To shield ourselves from the cold, we decided to wait and seek shelter at Starbucks instead. We then ordered tea to warm our bodies up. I called for a cup of fruit tea while Pigg went for oolong which was quite a big pot to finish.

At the scheduled shuttle bus time, we went down to the pickup point and soon we were on our way to the resort!

The interior of the resort is totally calming and peaceful, befitting of a spa resort!

Passing the private bathhouse rooms to wait at the lobby first while our baths are being prepared

View of the greenery located opposite the resort. We actually planned to explore Wulai village, but as it would be too rushed and since it's raining, we decided to skip that. Today is gonna be a 'chill' day, literally!

Pigg chilling with our good pal, the hotel umbrella. Thanks for sheltering us for the past few days.

Good luck to me today for wearing like that in the low temperature as I was prepared for our dinner. Fashion over comfort.

Our private bathroom! Since we were early for our appointment, we got to enjoy 2 hours instead of only one hour! Waiting for the water to run before we enjoy a soak. What a good time for a hot bath in this cold weather! Reminds me of the time I went Hokkaido where we went for outdoors onsen during winter.

Would've preferred if the window was fully open but it's actually tinted from the outside to protect our privacy as it is actually a hiking trail opposite.

A wooden container like the traditional bathhouses

The 2 hours passed in a flash but it was indeed a relaxing soak as we also put on a clay mask since it's a good time to clean out those pores and moisturise at the same time. We received a call to remind us we have 10 minutes left till our end time. After that, we get to enjoy an afternoon tea at the restaurant upstairs.

Pigg ponding about life cos he's gonna turn 22 today

Appreciating tea amidst the peacefulness

Soon enough, our afternoon tea set came!

A 9 square afternoon tea platter! Everything is awesome!

Cheers to this trip!
Can I stay here forever? It's so serene here, never wanna leave this place

It was a good high tea to end off this relaxing time spent at Wulai. We totally need not rush as we had already booked the shuttle bus out to Xindian before we head to Taipei 101 station

Reached Taipei 101 station at around 5 and we still had time to spare before our dinner appointment at 7.30pm. Therefore, we decided to explore around before making our way there.

We headed to the biggest Eslite bookstore outlet to help Roger hunt for his Jay Chou CD. Night soon fell and it's time for us to head to the dinner place which was quite a long walk.

It started to rain and this rain was the heaviest and coldest throughout our trip ☔️ When the wind blows, it sends chills throughout your body and I'm totally not dressed for the weather

But we finally reached our destination! Wang Steak! A local high end steak house which is not known among tourists 😀

The restaurant was located at the second floor, and could be accessed by a staircase. Never would have imagine stepping into such a high end restaurant in Singapore, but once you travel, never hesitate to try anything because this opportunity would not come twice.

Lucky for us as we have made a reservation prior, as the restaurant was full house!

Like all high end restaurants, the ambience of Wang Steak is no different, dimly lit only with lights shining on the table, focusing on the food.

We were given a menu to browse where we were told to take our time and call the waiters whenever we are ready to order.

Oh! And they gave us napkins to wipe our hands before we start eating.

First up! Champagne as a welcome drink provided by the restaurant. Cheers! This time round cheers to pigg turning 22!

Time to put CBM into good application, this is the aperitif, an alcoholic drink taken before the meal to stimulate the appetite 😁

Second! Bread and butter! I only finished the croissant as I want to leave more space for the mains since this is an 8 course meal

Third! Our salad which is the appetiser! Pigg's one is this artistic looking platter. How fancy for a salad!

I got the sautéed scallop with king oyster mushroom, another piece of art for the food presentation

Still haven't finished the bread from the previous course.

Chef special which is a bonus for us since we signed up for their membership. Since I don't eat beef, they prepared the seafood salsa for me while Pigg got oxtail jelly

Moving on! The soup! Pigg had truffle mushroom bisque

I ordered this seafood consommé with pastry which they cut it up into smaller pieces for us and lightly season the soup. The best way to enjoy the pastry is to put it into the soup and eat it together.

A picture of my soup before the pastry gets destroyed.

Sipping the soup like a connoisseur

Fifth course was 酸梅汤 to cleanse our palate of all the oils from before

Sixth course which is our main course! The waiters were kind enough to let us take finish our photos before explaining to us on how to best enjoy our dish.

I called for the seafood platter which consists of salmon, cod and abalone

The waiter helped us to season our dish with the sea salt and also helped Pigg to cut his Wang Steak, and told him the best way to enjoy it was to savour its original taste before dipping it into the sauces provided.

Our reflection on the glass ceiling above while we enjoy our main course

Pigg eating his steak deliciously. So glad that we decided to come here! Even though I don't eat beef, the beef looks extremely tender as it is baked before it is grilled, a signature cooking method of wang steak.

By the time we reached the seventh course, we were quite full. But luckily it is tea to cleanse our palate and go with our desserts.

Last course! Desserts! Pigg had the strawberry tart while I had the apple tart and Creme brûlée.

A birthday surprise from Wang steak! For those who have their birthday celebration will get a birthday cake from them. It's so nice and lovely as a cake is a must for birthdays! Time to make a wish and blow out the candles!

So cute! It's served on this musical revolving lady Susan that plays the happy Birthday tune.

Yay! Birthday dinner surprise for Pigg was a success!

The staff even helped us to take photos and printed them out for us in order to commemorate this special day. Wang steak's level of hospitality and service is exceptional, making this a memorable birthday celebration for us!

Totally a great dinner experience and the most enjoyable meal for us in Taipei!
