Choo Choo Chicken

Image
After walking one round along Haji Lane, we settled down at Choo Choo Chicken for dinner. Choo Choo Chicken like 4 Fingers, sells Korean Fried Chicken but after trying their soy chicken wings, I can conclude that Choo Choo Chicken is the winner. Their chicken is fried fresh and the soy sauce is not as salty like 4 Fingers, but carry some sweetness to it. We ordered Half Soy, Half Crispy for the 8-piece wings.  Sis called for Garlic Chicken Tenders which are not bad too We decided to order another round of tenders in spicy as we were still not full. Second round:  I was knocked out by the spiciness as soon as I bite into the tenders, but after fighting with the spice in my mouth, I managed to finish 2 out of 8 of the tenders. Cousin was laughing and jeering at me and sis for not being able to handle the spiciness, however, he too feel the burning sensation in his mouth at the third tender. He soon surrendered by downing his Hoegaarden to extingui...

Rainbow Cottage Cafe

Image
Exploring yet another cafe in Ang Mo Kio with Mich and Pigg. The residents are really lucky to have so many cafes popping up around their neighbourhood Rainbow Cottage Cafe looking really homey from the outside It was full house when we entered, but we were lucky to get a table quite fast though it took the staff some time to clear as they were quite busy. Pigg ordered a earl grey lavender tea with the hope of soothing his bad throat but was a little disappointed with it, as it looks like something one can order at a coffee shop.  Of course, at Rainbow Cottage must try their Rainbow Paddlepop Cheesecake It was served prettily with a cute jewel fork.  Hot chocolate to go along with my paddlepop cheesecake. The cheesecake tastes okay and did not have any artificial taste even though a lot of coloring is used to create the rainbow effect. However, I feel that there is nothing really special about its taste though the colors are really pretty. N...

Cream and Custard

Image
Part two of our Tiong Bahru cafe hopping journey is continued at Cream and Custard. I followed them on Instagram and always enjoyed looking through their lovely desserts against the clean white backgrounds. Exactly like the photos on Instagram, the cafe is simple and cozy, a great place to enjoy your desserts. Also many thanks to @thelocalhunter for the giveaway, I get to enjoy their Passion Fruit Meringue Tarts We wanted to try the cool looking black ball at first, but the Chef's recommended we try Sundae as it is would taste lighter as it is made of mascarpone cheese compared to the rich dark chocolate in S'mores. The Passion Fruit Meringue Tart is also one of their specials but my favorite is still the Sundae, which I fell in love on the first bite, S'mores may be a little 'jelat' if one were to finish the whole thing on its own. The passion fruit meringue tart has a little hint of sourness but not as bad as it is light. Overall, we had a great balanc...

Flock Cafe

Image
Despite the haze and hot weather, we headed all the way down to Tiong Bahru for brunch. I also wanted to explore the cafes the hipster neighbourhood have to offer. Our first stop for the day is  Flock Cafe that is nestled inside Ghim Moh Terrace.  The cafe was full house at the time we went there, and only outdoor seats were available. Hence, we decided to sit outside first and move indoors afterwards. Morning has Broken, Mr Coffee has Spoken A really nice calligraphy wall design for those who need their morning coffee boost.   Mouthwatering TALL cakes that look so appetising Finally moved indoors as the smell from the haze outside is unbearable Did some edits with Instagram new collage app to achieve this result  I ordered a Big Breakfast, while Pigg and Ducky both ordered Scrambled eggs & Croissant, smoked salmon and crispy bacon.  Pigg could not wait to dig in, ducky sis Scrambled eggs and Croissan...

Cafe Mojito

Image
Finally met up with Huierm for a catch up session over our University life at Cafe Mojito. Situated  right opposite Bishan Park @ Block 338, it took us quite a while to find the place as we alighted one stop earlier and went the wrong way.  We ordered their all day breakfast even though it's dinner time Pork sausage and egg -$8.90  A hearty all day breakfast platter of Assorted bean ragout, Italian pork sausage, scrambled egg, healthy salad, walnut cranberry toast. I would say the dish is quite simple yet I polished off my plate.  Blueberry Tart- $4.20 I would say that this is da bomb, and partly what I came here for. The blueberries are sweet and the jam just go really well with the custard and thin tart crust... I've always prefer tarts over cakes Huierm ordered this cheesecake but we were a disappointed as it has a weird bitter aftertaste. The cake was a little hard too and we managed to only eat half of it. We wondered why ...

GRUB

Image
University life at SIT have recently started for me and I have always been looking forward to it ever since I got accepted into my dream course- Hospitality Business. First week of school have been great so far, as I only attended two formal days of school as there are no tutorials. I also do not have school on Wednesdays, hence it was short and sweet as Friday was polling day!  On Tuesday morning, we went to school to attend a short half an hour career talk. Our next lecture is all the way in the afternoon at 4pm, so we had a super long break... Of course, a five hour break calls for cafe hopping! Hence, we decided to go GRUB!   The PSI level these days have been really unhealthy, yet we are still out in the haze and we had  difficulty finding the way to Bishan Park due to the constructions. I had been to GRUB once but I've forgotten how to go there as I don't really have a good sense of direction...  Camera eat first! GRUB Cheeseburger, Ch...

CoolPlay Soft Serve

Image
No need to go all the way to Taiwan to enjoy this soft serve that is full of swag, it is now available in the neighbourhood of Toa Payoh. After a 10 minute walk from Toa Payoh MRT, we finally found this simple little shop, filled with many different props for photo taking.  The flavours of the week are heavy chocolate, milk tea and melons.  Be it cup or cone, double flavours are priced at $5.50 while single flavour are available for $5. Not everyone can pull off a moustache and look cool, but Coolplay soft serves certainly can. Heavy Chocolate X Milk Tea combination is a little too rich whereas the combination of rock melons and honeydew taste light and suited our sweet tooth more. The moustache is actually an edible biscuit but a little disappointing that it do not have much taste. On a side note, the soft serves are really suitable for the hot and hazy days, however they do melt real fast and be sure to take your photographs real quick before they ...

Brother Bird

Image
Ever have that craving for a cold dessert but also want something to chew on? Then Brother Bird is where you must flock. Situated along Bali Lane, this small cafe is a great shelter and will be a joy on your taste buds. Rice Donut Soft serve From the top, it is a delightful dual swirl of coconut and cookie butter, nestled on top of  a chewy Rice donut that has a consistency that  reminds one of the Korean rice cake, Tteokbokki, but without the stickiness. The deliciousness of the Rice donut is only enhanced when eaten with the soft serve. At the bottom, you have crushed almond and dehydrated berries that will add  extra flavor and crunch to the dessert ! It is indeed a very satisfying dessert especially after walking under the hot sun from Beach Road to Bali Lane, I would definitely recommend to share this with someone as the chewy rice donut might be quite filling for one.
